United across the world to bring you electricity during a crisis

From Spain to Brazil, through the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Portugal and Mexico, we are a global company working hard to provide a vital service during this pandemic. Always following the recommendations of each country’s health authorities, and with the safety of our employees as a priority, Iberdrola people across the world are active to keep power flowing.

Electricity is an essential part of life that requires a lot of hard work behind the scenes every day. We strive to provide a reliable service to our customers who count on us, especially when many are at home to stay safe during this crisis.

We also appreciate that many people are experiencing financial hardships in the current climate. So we are doing all we can to support people, ensuring that vulnerable people will always be connected and increasing facilities to support those finding it difficult to pay.

For us, it is clear that the more we unite, the quicker we can overcome this crisis.  Everyone is affected in some way, but everyone can help. Iberdrola’s companies across the globe are taking measures to protect customers and employees, and to keep our services operating as normal. Electrical infrastructure is critical to keep hospitals and other essential community services running.

In Spain, we’ve put in place an action plan of 65 initiatives against COVID-19, including measures to protect our clients, a special plan for hospitals to guarantee and secure energy supplies, and we have even moved our General Shareholders Meeting online for the first time.

In the United States, Avangrid and all its electricity and gas distribution companies have adopted health and safety measures to reduce the risk of infection among employees and customers, as well as implementing solutions to address the potential financial impacts of an extended public health crisis on customers. There will also be additional support for emergency services and hospitals to secure supplies.

In Brazil, Neoenergia and its subsidiaries have asked their clients to prioritize digital customer service channels for the provision of services and emergency response. They are also strengthening electricity supplies and taking all necessary measures to protect customers. Specifically, they have designed a plan to give priority attention to the health, sanitation and water supply sectors directly related to the fight and containment of the advance of the coronavirus, with exclusive channels of quick response.

In the UK, ScottishPower will take all necessary steps to help protect the safety and well-being of clients, colleagues and communities. Our services are crucial for the lives of millions of families and businesses, supported by our energy networks, generation and retail operations. As the COVID-19 situation develops, ScottishPower will work hard to minimize service disruption during these challenging times.

In Mexico, Iberdrola has activated a plan to protect its employees, suppliers and customers, as well as in Italy, Portugal and France. In Italy, for example, measures have been put in place to protect vulnerable clients and give flexible payment facilities to families and companies.

Our chairman, Ignacio Galán, wanted to thank all the employees for their commitment in managing this crisis. «The measures that are being implemented in these countries, to ensure the essential service we provide to the public, are deserving of recognition for the responsiveness, commitment, availability and effectiveness of the women and men of Iberdrola”.

“Let us continue to work with the same responsibility in order to face the double challenge we have ahead: to guarantee the energy supply, which is absolutely vital in the current circumstances, and to protect the health and safety of all the people», he concludes.
